Meet the Marvelous: Laura Howard

At the beginning of this month, we were excited to welcome a fresh new face to Redhead Salon. If you've visited us recently, you may have met our young, bright, and determined new apprentice, Laura Howard. A natural redhead herself, Laura graduated from Amber's Beauty School in June and eagerly started working with us a few weeks later.

The apprentice position at Redhead offers recent graduates to gain real-world experience in a professional salon setting. You can typically find Laura prepping clients for the stylists, shampooing clients, assisting on color, and helping with salon upkeep.

Tell me more about the process to become an apprentice at Redhead: I found out about the position when I was getting ready to graduate from Amber's. I knew this was the next step I wanted to take, so I decided to schedule an interview. You have to pass two interviews to be accepted for the job, and I did! I was one of three girls selected.

What is your favorite part about the apprenticeship?  I love helping the stylists and learning from them. It makes me feel proud to know that they trust me.

What is the hardest part of this program? Since I just graduated from school, I am confident in my technical abilities, so the thing I've found the most challenging is creating a meaningful relationship with the client. I'm watching the stylists use dialogue with the clients and learning which phrases and conversations starters to use. Communication is a huge part of this business.

Now that you're working with the Davines line, what is your favorite product? I can't decide! I love the Sea Salt Spray, the Oi line, and the Love Smoothing shampoo & conditioner.

What advice would you offer to beauty school students who want to become an apprentice?  When you're at school, you need to work hard! Do well on your assignments and tests, and always be learning. Take pride in your appearance and look the part of a professional. Make connections with people and build a network.

What are you most looking forward to in your apprenticeship? Building regular clientele and learning. I can't wait to learn more! I am so excited to be here.

Say hello to Laura in person. Schedule your appointment by calling 765.284.6505.
